Board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Stephen Augustine is dual fellowship trained at the Hughston Clinic in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy as well as Shoulder Reconstruction. He has a strong focus on sports medicine, working as the team physician for several sports organizations throughout his career. He is currently the team physician for South Georgia State College Athletics. He was previously the Chief of Sports Medicine at the University of Florida Jacksonville. A native of Douglas, Georgia, Dr. Vickers completed his undergraduate from the University of Georgia before completing Medical School and his Orthopedic Residency at the University of Florida. He continued to Emory University Department of Orthopedics where he was Fellowship-Trained in Total Joint Replacement. He has a strong focus on the total knee and hip joint replacements and also reconstruction of failed joint replacements. Dr. Vickers is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. A Native of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Dr. Laura Tharp graduated from the Mercer University School of Medicine before completing her orthopedic residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. She then continued to the University of Miami where her fellowship training was in hand & upper extremities. Dr. Tharp’s specialties include:

Mary Jon is a board-certified physician assistant (PA-C). Mary Jon joined Orthopedic Surgeons of Georgia in 2022 where she works alongside Dr. Steve Augustine. She is committed to her patients with a focus on patient care and education.

Working in a clinical setting since 2011, Mr. Dowling received his Bachelors of Science in Nursing from College of Coastal Georgia in 2011 before continuing his education there to receive his Masters of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2018. Mr. Dowling worked in the hospital setting as an RN while simultaneously working on his Masters. Prior to joining OSGA, Mr. Dowling was employed by Coffee Regional Medical Center and worked in the intensive care unit. Mr. Dowling works alongside Dr. Josh Vickers.

A native of Tifton, Georgia, Dr. Hewatt “Mac” Sims is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Spine Surgeon. After receiving a medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine he completed his orthopedic Surgery Residency at the Medical College of Georgia. He continued to Denver Spine Education and Research Institute where he was fellowship trained as a spinal surgeon. Dr. Sims is highly trained in minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Sims is seeing patients in Douglas, Tifton and Valdosta. His Specialties include:

Board Certified Nurse Practitioner, Josh Hughes received his BSN from Valdosta State University in 2007. While working as a registered nurse, he continued his education to receive his Master of Nursing Practice in Adult Medicine in 2012. Working in many roles throughout his career his most recent is alongside Dr. Mac Sims specializing in back, spine and neck orthopedic ailments.
